Someone Had a Birthday

This little cutie!!!!

So her birthday was clear back on November 3rd. We threw a You are my Sunshine party for just family and close friends. Madilyn loved planning the whole thing with me, from ordering decorations, to putting them up and making a cake. Kira enjoyed every minute, just having her people around her. She loved tearing wrapping paper, and pulling things out of bags.

Here is the actual invite, the moon is glittered and the clouds and moon are cut out of paper (meaning they are cuter in person)

Ruffle cake, the next one will be better, this one was a learning process

We did everything in yellow and white with touches of grey (you make me happy when skies are grey)

Balloons everywhere! The little kids loved that! (p.s. headband lasted all of 2 photos)

Funny story though, for baby girl #2 I had been thinking of doing a really sweet, vintage, frilly, girly party. But alas, the closer and closer the party got the more I realized that theme just didn't suit her. We call her our little monster/gremlin/stitch (fron Lilo and Stitch) or jack-jack (from the Incredibles, you know the one that breathes fire, and flies). She doesn't coo she rumbles, she doesnt giggle she chortles, she doesn't wine or cry she yells and growls. Thus the transition to a more fitting theme. She is our sunshine and makes us happy :)

She LOVES lemon flavor, or any citrus for that matter, so I made a lemonade cake...she wasnt' such a fan...
We love you little one, may we spend many more birthdays with loved ones and friends!

Trip Memories:

On our last night the girls woke up when we loaded them into their beds at 11:00pm. Kira went right back down, but Madilyn stayed up and chatted with us. Finally she said "Dad. I am freakin out tired!"

Kira puked 10 minuted in, on the drive home.

We drove Wednesday day, and got in around 4:30 so we called up uncle Sean and cousin Jake and we got to have dinner and play before the Disney weekend started

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

So I wasn't quite ready to send Madilyn off to preschool yet. And there were a couple moms in the stake that were doing a co-op preschool. So we joined in. There are 5 girls and we rotate who teaches. It's been great for both me and Madilyn. This last week we took a field trip to the pumpkin patch...

Trip to Utah 2011

We spent the last week in good ol' Utah. Scott's youngest sister Morgan had a wedding. We went out a couple days early to spend some time with this special lady. (This is my Grandmother Earllene)

She took us to Thanksgiving Point ( http://www.thanksgivingpoint.com/ ), we spent almost two whole days there and barely saw a quarter of it.

The Celebration started a couple days early since Grandma and Grandpa Sumsion had to go to Arizona for Aunt Morgan's engagement party. We had a small pre-birthday celebration.

Grandma Cindy and Grandpa Mike gave Madilyn Gymnastic class-and an outfit..."Turn around and look at me Madilyn"

We ended the night with ice cream (the chocolate kind with sprinkles and M&Ms)-in/on our new gymnastic outfit

Birthday morning she got a puzzle from mom and dad-she LOVES puzzles and is quite good at them-especially the princess variety

Birthday day festivities-thanks for the left over decor from aunt Sabrina's bridal shower :)

The theme was "fun & frills" the girls all got wings, tutu's, and necklaces. We then had a craft table for making your own magic wand

Easter and Birthday Teaser

The festivities started the day before at Grandma Cindy's house. We joined cousin Isabelle on an easter egg hunt. And of course Grandma had made these gorgeous easter bonnets.

(I mean really, what else are you supposed to do with little plastic eggs)

We awoke to easter baskets (please note a very tired mom, with a little too much quaff in her hair).

On Easter Sunday we went to Gigi and Papa's house. The easter bunny had left a couple of little things there too!

We made this bouquet of flowers for a Relief Society Meeting. When I realized I would never display them in a vase, I cut of the stems and glued them to an empty white frame. Love.

This bed is actually part of a set; Uncle Justin and Uncle "T's" old bunk beds. We painted them pink. I knew I would need something to fill in the holes where the upper bed attaches. I found these candle holders at TJMAXX for like $7 total...we matched the paint color to them and Scott attached dowels...Voila! (BTW: flat paint is NOT a good choice for furniture, when we are ready to paint the other bed we will redo this one in a glossier finish-bummer)

We were able to take a 3 day trip to Disneyland after the holidays. Madilyn LOVED it-it was the first time she knew who the character's were. Kira was a good sport, and all in all we had a blast!

Baby Kira Jane

Baby Kira Jane Sumsion was born on November 3rd 2010. She weighed in at 9 lbs. 10 oz., and was 22 inches long. She was welcomed by big sister Madilyn, Dad & mom (and a couple grandmas, grandpas, aunts & uncles). We love having her here. Madilyn had to adjust a little but she is now loving being the big sister & is so helpful & happy. Scott & I are still getting used to saying things using "kids" & "girls". Kira is sleeping rather well, we're feeling a little spoiled there, and mom is doing great (much better than expected actually-hooray for 2nd c-sections!). We are so grateful for our little family!

Halloween

Madilyn decided that for Halloween she wanted to be Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street. I found a used blue Easter dress on ebay ($8 with shipping). Then I added floof until it looked like something Abby might have in her closet.

Lets just say Madilyn was thrilled to actually look like Abby (or close enough). She loved it all, from having the make-up put on, to pretending to use her wand. And going trunk-to-trunk to get candy?!? You just say trick-or-treat and they put a candy in your bag?!? She was totally in. Of course like so many holidays, it was just her little self and an adult entourage: Gigi, Papa, Uncle Justin, Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Mimi, Uncle Jazz. Luckily cousin Isabelle is getting big enough to come along-she loves cousin Isabelle.

All in all it was a good Halloween, excited for next year when we have two little ones running around (and more costumes to make).

Summertime

Sooo

It's been a while. Things are good.

We gave in and had to have air conditioning installed in our little home. 89 degrees is just to hot for inside. While that was happening we stayed with my parents, and it was almost like a little vacation. However I came home to a dusty/dirty house, an overgrown yard, and lots of things to put back in place.

We are excited for this next little one. I think we will name her Kira Jane Sumsion. Madilyn is excited to be a big sister. I'm excited to not have this inside me anymore. Is it terrible that I hate being pregnant? There's this thing inside me, making my bones hurt, giving me heartburn, increasing my resting body temperature at least 3 degrees, causing serious back pain...and I don't even get the benefits of hugging and kissing and loving it. That's ok right? I don't have to love being pregnant to be a good mom?

We've gone poo-poo on the poddy twice now! Woo-Hoo!!! It would be awesome to have this one out of diapers before the next one shows up.

And...our camera broke. We can't even get it to turn on...hence no photos today (although I don't think you'd want to see photos of my messy house, my uncomfortable body...or Madilyn poo-pooing). But I will have some fun ones to share as soon as I can get them off my camera.

So at 4:20 this afternoon I realized I hadn't even thought about dinner yet. I was so consumed with the days projects (organizing finances and cleaning out closets). And of course Scott gets home early, right as I'm looking up possible recipes for pork chops and pasta (I haven't gone grocery shopping in a while, and that was what we had).

As soon as he realized that dinner was at LEAST 1/2 and hour out, and that I had been working so hard and accomplishing so much he said: "why don't we just put on some rice and order take out from Chu's Too!"

I LOVE THIS MAN!

Then as if that wasn't enough, when I said "that means I'll have to put clothes on today" he said "oh-yeah you are still in your pajamas aren't you, just throw on some jeans and big sunglasses and you'll look great!"

The Butterfly Birthday

I just turned 2...2...

...2 years old!

So May 7th, 2010 marked Madilyn's second year on this earth. We took her out to dinner that evening. We ate at none other than Red Robin. She always claps along when they sing happy birthday to people so we thought it would be fun to have them singing to her. She clapped and smiled right along.

Following dinner we took her to a local high school's performance of "Aida". You think to yourself-"why would you take a 2 year old to see a musical?". Well SHE LOVED IT. I think having her dad in those couple shows-she has already learned to appreciate theatre. She was so excited to go and stayed awake for the entire show (7:00pm-10:30pm).

We had her actual birthday party the next day.

Dress Ups

Cooking up a storm...in a storm...

So I've determined to start eating healthier. Both for my sake and the sake of those, for whom I cook. As a result I've been cooking a lot more and our grocery runs are a little more... cumbersome.

Today we went to Safeway-they have the best produce; it lasts at least a week. Madilyn helped me bag carrots, celery, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, bananas, strawberries, lettuce etc. We also bought some whole wheat pasta, some V8 fruit/vegetable juice. I must say I was pretty proud of my cart at check out. (That's right-check out THIS healthy mom)

Luckily, as we were leaving the store with a shopping cart FULL of this wholsome food, the sky started spewing out huge raindrops that the wind angrily turned into a horizontal onslaught of freezing, wet pellets.

Madilyn and I braved it.

The wettest part is getting the kid in the car while your groceries continue collecting gallons of water. You finally get the kid strapped in, and you pull your head back out of the car only to realize that your pants are soaked in the front, from leaning against the car, and soaked in the back because your bum was hanging out in the rain that whole time. Load up the soaked groceries and get home!

Best of all, when you don't have an attached garage close to the kitchen, you get to park out front, in the storm and do the whole thing again.

Here's to a wet mom putting away wet groceries.

Christmas and Disneyland

We Couldn't get her to hold still!!!

Christmas was wonderful! We got Madilyn a little kitchen set that she just loves. Yesterday morning she had on a polka dot bubble skirt a pink shirt with a monkey on the front, her crazy striped snow hat, a different shoe on each foot and she was just a cookin' a way.

The day after Christmas we headed to Disneyland with my family. It was exhausting but fun. We hit Disneyland 3 times, including New Years Eve ( along with 99,993 other people). We went to sea world (Madilyn's favorite), as well as Universal studios.

Top ten Favorites from the trip:

Does Anyone Remember THIS Movie?

Ok well all I remember is that this little troll had a green thumb and there was this one scene where he made this ugly looking place absolutely beautiful just with the touch of his thumb. Flowers started blooming, trees started growing, pretty moss covered all the ugly dirt. Grass grew in, trellises of roses formed, delicious fruit popped up everywhere. And I remember thinking 'now that..THAT would be an awesome power'.

One day I was in the back seat with my mom running errands. We were driving in an ugly part of town and I remember putting my thumb up to the window and pretending it turned everything beautiful as we drove by. Houses were magically painted, grass cut, bushes trimmed, garbage gone.

As I've grown older that fantasy has slowly dwindled (I still imagine it occasionally but I refrain from putting my thumb up to the window :) ). However when I move into a new place, or my house is a mess I find myself closing my eyes and searching for this magic- whispering the words bibbity-bobbity-boo.

When I open my eyes everything is the same-the mess is still there, the decorating still needs to be done, the yard still needs landscaping, but some how the sheer imagining of the potential makes the work enjoyable.

My world is a beautiful place.

5. We are going on a southern CA vacation with my family after Christmas. We are going to sea world, sand diego zoo, universal studios and of course Disneyland:)

Halloween Party

So...a while ago Scott and I started discussing Halloween costume ideas in the hopes that we would be invited to a specific Halloween party. We knew if the invitation did come-costumes would be required.

A couple weeks ago, we decided on being vampires. It's always fun to get dressed up and pretend to be something you are not (I played dress up secretly in my room until I was like 14 years old, shshsh).

Finally the invitation came (whew I'm so glad we made the list). And lo and behold the theme for the party is Michael Jackson. Don't get me wrong I love the man's music. But lets be honest, he doesn't lend much creative license as far as costumes go, particularly for the females out there.

We discussed a lot of different ideas and after watching 20 or so, very pixilated, music videos...We are going to dress up as....

I have this idea that someday I will be like my sister in law. That this blog will become an adorable archive of our family history (as we all know I will never start a hand written journal). And yet somehow I can't manage to get on here and even keep a weekly writ going. This is post number one all by myself, and it's not too hard.

There's hope people, there's hope.
